What the treatment area includes
The stomach area from the ribcage down, including the hair line below the navel.
How it compares
Many people combine chest and abdomen, but each can be treated alone. Compare options.
Who may be a good candidate
Removing a dark line below the navel or general stomach hair. The best results are usually seen with dark hair, because laser energy is absorbed by pigment. If your hair in this area is light blonde, red, gray or white, laser may not be effective, and your provider will tell you so.
Consultation and assessment
Your first visit includes a review of your medical history, medications, skin tone, hair color and recent sun exposure. Your provider will confirm exactly which part of the body is included and may suggest a test spot.
During the appointment
The area is cleaned, and you and your provider wear protective eyewear. The handpiece is passed over the skin in a systematic pattern. Most people feel brief snaps of heat. Ask which comfort measures are available for this area when you book.
Area-specific notes
Hormonal changes, including pregnancy, can affect hair here. Treatment is delayed during pregnancy.
Preparation
- Shave the area the day before or the morning of your visit.
- Avoid waxing, plucking, threading and depilatory creams for several weeks.
- Avoid tanning and self-tanner for at least two weeks.
- Arrive with clean skin, free of lotion, makeup or deodorant on the area.
Aftercare
Choose soft waistbands for a day. Mild redness and raised follicles are common and usually settle within a day or two. Contact the clinic if you notice blistering or anything unusual.
Realistic results
Treated hairs shed over one to three weeks. Regrowth tends to become finer and sparser over a series of sessions. Laser offers long-term reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal, and some people benefit from occasional maintenance visits.
When treatment may be delayed
Treatment is usually postponed if you are pregnant, recently tanned or sunburned, have an active infection or irritation in the area, or take medication that makes skin sensitive to light.
Pricing and appointment length
