What the treatment area includes
The upper arms and forearms from the shoulder to the wrist. Hands and fingers may be added if offered.
How it compares
Full arms include the upper arm; forearms stop at the elbow. Compare options.
Who may be a good candidate
An even, smooth look in short sleeves without shaving or waxing the whole arm. The best results are usually seen with dark hair, because laser energy is absorbed by pigment. If your hair in this area is light blonde, red, gray or white, laser may not be effective, and your provider will tell you so.
Consultation and assessment
Your first visit includes a review of your medical history, medications, skin tone, hair color and recent sun exposure. Your provider will confirm exactly which part of the body is included and may suggest a test spot.
During the appointment
The area is cleaned, and you and your provider wear protective eyewear. The handpiece is passed over the skin in a systematic pattern. Most people feel brief snaps of heat. Ask which comfort measures are available for this area when you book.
Area-specific notes
Upper-arm hair is often finer and lighter than forearm hair, so results can differ along the arm.
Preparation
- Shave the area the day before or the morning of your visit.
- Avoid waxing, plucking, threading and depilatory creams for several weeks.
- Avoid tanning and self-tanner for at least two weeks.
- Arrive with clean skin, free of lotion, makeup or deodorant on the area.
Aftercare
Keep arms covered or protected with sunscreen when outdoors. Mild redness and raised follicles are common and usually settle within a day or two. Contact the clinic if you notice blistering or anything unusual.
Realistic results
Treated hairs shed over one to three weeks. Regrowth tends to become finer and sparser over a series of sessions. Laser offers long-term reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal, and some people benefit from occasional maintenance visits.
When treatment may be delayed
Treatment is usually postponed if you are pregnant, recently tanned or sunburned, have an active infection or irritation in the area, or take medication that makes skin sensitive to light.
Pricing and appointment length
